Bereits zum 6. Mal in Folge veranstaltet heuer der Vienna Celtic Rugby Club sein Internationales Rugby-Charity-Turnier, das Gernot Geppert Memorial. Hierbei wird in erster Linie dem 2004 nur 27-jährig an Leukämie verstorbenen Spieler, Gernot Geppert, gedacht. Heuer findet die Veranstaltung am Samstag den 28.August 2010 am Sportgelände des ASKÖ Atzgersdorf, 1230 Wien, in der Steinergasse 12 statt. Es werden 8 Mannschaften aus dem In- und Ausland erwartet. Der Reinerlös des gesamten Turniertages kommt dem Österreichischen Stammzellregister zugute. Das Institut beschäftigt sich mit der Erstellung eines Daten-Netzwerkes, dieses wird ständig erweitert und soll eine effiziente Vermittlung von Stammzell-Spendern und somit bessere Heilungschancen für Leukämie-Patienten ermöglichen. Das Turnier hat sich seit bestehen als Fixpunkt im österreichischen Rugbykalender etabliert und ist das erste Highlight des Jahres, nicht nur am Spielfeld sondern auch abseits davon ein würdiger Start in die Saison 2010/2011!!!Das Turnier beginnt vormittags und dauert bis ca. 18:00 UhrAlso komm vorbei und „join the Party!!“ We are tradionally hosting the Gernot Geppert Memorial Cup, now already fort he 6th time.This year the event will take place on August 28th at Atzgersdorf at the ground of ASKÖ Atzgersdorf in 1230 Vienna, Steinergasse 12.The Cup has been founded to keep our memories up high to one of the great members of the club who passed away on Leukemia at the age of 27 in 2004.The income which we can achieve during the tournament will be donated to the austrian bone marrow register. This institute is working on the creation of a database where donators and patients can be connected efficiently and timesaving. Hey Guys ! Training for the next season has started! In July we will start with a few fitness sessions to get us really in shape for the season and in the beginning of August we will start again with rugby skills! We have to work hard and focused because in mid of august we will have our first test game and there will also be the Geppert Cup! So your attendance is imortant! Information about training will be send out by email. For new guys who are interested in playing rugby and want to join the training please contact us! Everyone is welcome!

Ligafinale/ League Final Zum Abschluss der österreichischen Rugby Bundesliga steht der Saisonhöhepunkt vor der Tür. Das Ligafinale zwischen den beiden besten Mannschaften der vergangenen Saison findet am Samstag um 18:30 im Stadion des Wiener Sportklubs (1170 Wien, Alszeile 19) statt. Mit dem besten Team der Saison, dem RC Donau, steht wie zu erwarten der Serienmeister der letzten Jahre verdient im Endspiel. Der RC Donau konnte in der vergangenen Saison nur einmal bezwungen werden, dies erfreulicherweise durch unser junges Team. Dies bestätigt uns auf unserem Weg weiterhin verstärkt viele neue (junge) Gesichter in das Team und den Verein einzubauen. Der zweite Finalteilnehmer ist mit Stade Viennois der Tabellenzweite des letzten Jahres. Die beiden Spiele gegen Stade gingen leider unglücklich verloren, bei beiden wäre mit etwas mehr Glück (und Disziplin) auch ein Sieg für uns drinnen gewesen. Mit dem dritten Platz in der Abschlusstabelle können wir in Summe zufrieden sein, vor allem ist es uns gelungen viele neue Spieler in die Teams der 1. und 2.Liga zu integrieren.Erfreulich war vor allem, dass wir der einzige Club waren, der durchgängig durch die ganze Saison hindurch eine eigenständige Mannschaft in der 2. Liga als B-Team etablieren konnten. Wir wünschen beiden Teams alles Gute und allen ein spannendes Ligafinale in einem sicher tollen Ambiente.Für unser junges Wanderers Team gibt es am Samstag ebenfalls die Möglichkeit sich nochmals zu präsentieren und weiter Erfahrung zu sammeln. Im letzten 15er Rugby Spiel der Saison werden unsere Youngsters gegen die Jungs von NÖ XV antreten. Last Saturday Donau hosted the last game of this years regular season in the Powerade rugby league against Vienna Celtic. With a win Celtic would finish third in the league and although Donau already had secured a place in the final, the longest rivalry in Austrian rugby provided certainly enough of an incentive on its own to guarantee a tough game.
Both sides featured many young players who were especially motivated to make a strong impression on their respective coaches and from the kick off it was a fast game with chances on both sides. Celtics disciplined defensive line prevented Donau from scoring in the first half and the offensive efforts led by captain Mushegh Aslanyan gained momentum which resulted in two quick tries. The early lead boosted Celtic's confidence and when Celtic scored for the third time in the first half, the first win over the arch rival this season seemed possible. Despite the hot weather both teams continued to play on a high level in the second half. Donau managed to break Celtic's line a few times and was rewarded with two tries but Celtic proceeded to put points on the board as well and ultimately the victory for Celtic over the young Donau side was never in danger.
Although Donau was missing many starting players due to an international match and we can expect to see a different side in the upcoming final, Celtic made a strong impression at the end of the season and showed that it did a good job integrating young players in the team and will be a force to be reckoned with next season. |
